Malawi participated in the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) High-Level Roundtable Discussion

On the sidelines of the #UNGA79, Malawi participated in the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) High-Level Roundtable Discussion on Africa’s Natural Resources Shaping the Future, which was convened to deliberate on how to harness Africa’s vast natural resources and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals while catalyzing the economic development of Africa and powering the global energy transition.
Minister of Mining Hon Monica Chang’anamuno represented H.E The President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera.
The meeting brought together notable figures including the Vice President of Nigeria H.E Kashim Shettima, Minister of Solid Minerals Development for Nigeria Hon. Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources for Sierra Leone Hon. Julius Mattai, H.E Alparslan Bayrakta, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources for Turkey, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs for United Arab Emirates H.E Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Mr. Alberto Castronovo Head of Italian Sovereign Fund for Mining, Mr. Stefano Marguccio Deputy CEO of Sustainable Energy For All, Government representatives from Egypt and Liberia and Secretary General for (AMSG) H.E Moses Micheal Engadu.
The event was attended by more than 200 private sector CEOs to identify key strategies for fostering local and regional renewable energy manufacturing capabilities, and offer a platform for countries to share insights on the current gaps in data, tools, capacities and policy frameworks that hinder domestic value addition and equitable benefits sharing, thereby guiding an action agenda for development partners to pursue.
